GAME VIEWING, HIKING Lavushi Manda National Park lies in the Mpika district and extends over an area of 1 500 km. The Lavushi hills, averaging 1 550 m above sea level, lie in the eastern part of the park, with Lavushi Mountain a prominent landmark. This is an excellent area for hiking. The Lukulu River forms the principal drainage system. Miombo woodland covers most of the park, with riverine woodland lining the major watercourses. Small populations of elephant, sable, roan, eland, waterbuck, buffalo, Lichtenstein's hartebeest and klipspriger roam the area, and lion and leopard are the two major predators. Location: Eastern Zambia; north-east of Lusaka. Access: From Lusaka follow the main road towards Mpika; 141 km past the Kasanka National Park turnoff turn left and continue to Lavushi Manda, which is not far from the road. It can also be approached from Kasanka National Park; directions can be obtained there. Accommodation: None. Other facilities: None. Open: Check with the authority.
